Start with the Routine

These days, we easily turn to new hobbies and professions. The whole Internet is always ready to help us imagine the beautiful picture of becoming a master in any of them. The picture can be very fancy. The only problem is that it’s not always true.

The reality is about routine. It’s a daily practice of something. And all too often, it’s not fancy. You decided to start playing the piano? You will likely be disappointed and embarrassed more often than amazed by the magic of music, at least in the early stages of active learning. Because in order to excel, you need to learn, and it’s never only joy.

However, if you’re realistic enough about the process ahead and your readiness to go through the routine, you may even enjoy the process of overcoming difficulties and mastering yourself. Because whatever you choose to work on with dedication will help you master your whole self.

Let’s dedicate less time to imagining yourself already as a master and rather focus on the process of learning and how that may feel. This will help avoid disappointment and increase the chances of enjoying yourself, even when you’re not the fastest learner on earth.
